LITHODIAGNOST ME Operation characteristics

The use of this kidney-stone decomposition equipment is pronouncedly tolerant, it is not painful at all for patients.
All types of stones in the urinary tract can be effectively treated by this method.

Principle of operation:

The shock wave generated by electro hydraulic shock wave is focused with help of reversed spatial - so called ellipsoid space geometric shape - then concentrated in one point energy, which occurs as pressure is oriented on the stone of the patient.
This shock-wave - generated by the spark discharge under water - (called as GOLDEN STANDARD principle) results in perfect decomposition of stone, which breaks in opposite to other types not in sharp-edged large pieces but sand size small particles.
During application of equipment the kidney stones can be located by both either ultrasound tests or X-rays.

Principle of shock wave generation:

A specific electrode designed for this purpose, is discharged via a condenser inside the ellipsoide in the voltage range of 14-28 KV.
The efficiency of the treatment is mostly determined by this electrode.
The electrodes, manufactured by Swiss HMT enable approx. 10-18.000 discharges. (In case of 15 kW range up to 30,000 discharges could be realised), depending on selected energy range, which is enough for treatment of 5 patients per electrode.
The generated shock wave has very short duration (10 ns the duration of whole pressure impulse is 30 ns).
In the A running-up period the value of generated pressure pick is approx. 20- 38 mPa, which is much lower and more gentle for the patient, than pressure pick generated by other products. (which can reach the value of 55 MPa).
The perfect focusing, which is 11x68 mm and penetration depth of 150-180 mm in the range of 20 kV discharge voltage, the generated small pressure nevertheless enables creating a energy effecting on whole surface of the stone and causing minimum load on the tissues. The positioning of focus results in perfect break of stones and causing less sound effect in comparison with formerly manufactured equipment, (60 DB/ 20 kW) that is favourable for saving the hearing of patient as well as of the physician.
The Philips Medical System, manufacturer of equipment recommends ELC 124 type electrode, because the equipment is calibrated with this electrode. The electrodes remain during all their lifetime in the breaking head and the used electrode can not be recycled.

Description of experience gained during the test of ELC 114 type electrode recommended by Philips Hungary:

The shape and content of electrode is deviating from ELC 124 type, because there is no protecting sheathing, which ensures by filling up with appropriate conductivity liquid the generation of perfect shock wave, the metal and carbon powder created by burning, wearing during discharge of electrode on the picks of two is mixed during treatment with water inside of breaking head, which is continuously circulated (in addition to cleaning and filtration the equipment is automatically adjusting the conductivity of liquid).

The metal powder may block the various valves and nozzles, which would make the operation of equipment unsteady.
The pole picks of electrode relative to the receptive position of electrode is different from that of ELC 124, therefore the generated energy, and the size of focus and power lines thereof are different from characteristics of suggested for the equipment, which can result in uncertainty of treatment. The sound effect is larger during discharge of ELC 114 and intensive vibration can be observed in the treatment head and on its surfaces.

During test treatment it was established that the breaking of stone is less, and the patient feels larger pain. The lifetime of electrode is 3-4000 discharges, which is enough only for treatment of 1 patient, and treatment of larger and harder stones is possible only by applying higher voltage.
